All these styles have its own significance and are performed for the betterment of the body. It was suggested by Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi to the United Nations in 2014, that June 21 should be celebrated as the International Yoga Day, as it is the longest day of the year. He stated that:
“Yoga is a precious gift of India’s ancient tradition. This tradition is 5,000 years old. It represents the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; balance between man and nature; a holistic path to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to feel the sense of oneness with you, the world and nature. By improving our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.” — Narendra Modi, UN General Assembly, September 2014.
